Habitat for Humanity builds its first 3D-printed home in nation to address affordable housing shortage
Post Date:06/09/2021 6:00 AM
Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona (Habitat) is building its first 3D-printed home in Tempe, seeking to transform affordable housing opportunities.
“This is really a moonshot opportunity for Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona,” said Jason Barlow, president and CEO of Habitat Central Arizona. “When we consider the housing issues facing Arizona, the need for affordable homeownership solutions becomes clear. If we can deliver decent, affordable, more energy-efficient homes at less cost, in less time and with less waste, we think that could be a real game-changer. Just think of the implications.”
The new 3D-printed home project is a single-family home with three bedrooms, and two baths. The livable space is 1,738 square feet, and the total project is 2,433 square feet. Approximately 70% of the home is 3D printed, including all internal and external walls. The remainder of the house is a traditional build.

Why 3D Printing
3D printing is revolutionizing the world in many ways. We focus on the materials and machines that print single-to-four story buildings and unique structures to save time, promote green building practices, reduce labor and lower overall costs.
Our investment in R&D, a broad network of partners and the ability to scale production of printers makes us uniquely positioned to help developers around the world move from traditional building methods to 3D print construction.
Apis Cor
Apis Cor, located in Melbourne, FL, has developed an electric 3D printer that can build a house in just 24 hours. The machine is 14 ft, 8 inches long, 6.5 ft high and 4.0 ft wide and can be easily transported on a trailer. On-site setup in less than an hour. Among their projects is the largest 3D printed building located in Dubai. The building is 6,889 sq. ft, reaching a height of almost 33 feet, and took a total of 17 days to print.
